Learn to bake bread the old-fashioned way! Susan Seltzer will offer a two-part workshop on June 1st and 2nd.
On Saturday (June 1st) participants will meet in the Meditation Centre at 3:30 pm to mix the dough. Afterward, wine and cheese will be served, and the dough will be covered and left overnight.
On Sunday morning at 8 am participants will reconvene to knead, shape, and bake the bread, a process that will take 3 hours. A light breakfast will be provided while we wait for things to happen.
Ingredients will be provided, but you should try to bring:
- a big mixing bowl
- a strong wooden spoon
- a kitchen scale
- a 5qt (or larger) Dutch oven
- some measuring spoons
- a silicon baking mat
- a cooling rack
If you cannot come up with all this stuff, we will try to loan you the missing pieces.
Registration for this workshop is $30 + a promise of fresh home-baked goods for us to sell at our Indoor Yard Sale in September. Participation is limited to the first 12 people. Just 1 slot left! To register, please email us.
SSBMS membership discounts apply.
For many years before she moved here, Susan and her husband, Paul, had a catering business in Florida. Her involvement with food continued when they moved to Mader’s Cove to run a bed-and-breakfast. All told, she has been producing baked goods destined for others’ palates for 45 years or so. Contributing to the community is a major part of Susan’s life. She and Paul were heavily involved in the creation of the Mahone Bay Centre, she was a member of the Chamber of Commerce for years, and she runs or assists in running many other community events. We are extremely lucky to have her!
